Ewan Currie Of The Sheepdogs

Ewan Currie, celebrated frontman of the multi-platinum, four-time JUNO-winning quintet The Sheepdogs, releases his sophomore album, Strange Vacation, via The Sheepdogs’ own label, Right On Records. The new record arrives alongside a visualizer for sun-soaked opener, "Big Pine Key".
The album arrives on multiple formats, including limited edition signed coloured vinyl, exclusive fan bundles, and other Strange Vacation goodies
"Big Pine Key," the album’s buoyant opener, encapsulates Currie's effortless blend of warm melodies and laid-back grooves. Inspired by a spontaneous moment during a drive through the Florida Keys, the track evolved from a country-infused idea into a breezy, soulful jam. Its catchy sun-kissed rhythm offers a perfect introduction to an album characterized by creative freedom and sonic exploration.
Speaking on the track, Currie shares, "I was driving down the highway in the Florida Keys when I saw a sign for Big Pine Key. I spontaneously started singing, and the song just flowed out. It became a summery kind of groove and really set the tone for the whole record.
" A collection of 13 songs, both new and reimagined, Strange Vacation picks up where the introspective, soul-searching tones of Currie’s 2019 debut Out of My Mind left off. Rooted in timeless songwriting and unafraid to break convention, Currie traverses genres and traditions with ease, embracing a broad sonic palette that spans classic soul, Beatlesque pop, and ‘70s AM Radio.
Acting as co-producer along with longtime collaborator Thom D’Arcy, he expanded his creative reach, experimenting with synths, textures, and production techniques that push beyond his previous work.
"This album is way more colourful and the songs are bigger, more energetic,” Currie continues. “If you were to compare it to painting, this one has a broader palette. It was really just about having fun and letting it all hang out." As the frontman of The Sheepdogs, and one-half of BROS, Currie is no stranger to the craft of songwriting. A multiple JUNO Award winner who has toured the world, he has a knack for pulling songs from the ether fully formed, sidestepping overanalysis in favour of instinct.
While music has become his livelihood, his solo work remains a space for pure creative exploration. Strange Vacation exists in that in-between – where experience meets discovery, where tradition meets innovation, and where Currie continues finding new ways to surprise himself.
